RUNNING TO ENJOY LIFE
Enjoying Life One Run at a Time
Who - What - When - Where- Why
This photo is of me – Cliff Calderwood – at the finish of the Falmouth Road Race in 2022. You can almost feel the sweat dripping off the image, right? Despite my 72 years, I did my fastest time ever for the race. I enjoyed starting and finishing. The actual race? Let’s say running 7 miles on a hot August morning on the hilly Woods Hole to Falmouth roads can test your resolve, but the course is spectacular, and the organization and spectators were incredible.
So, this is a website for those who want to enjoy running and use it as a springboard to discover the enjoyment of life. It all started with a little book called Run for Joy, which I wrote in 2021.
Don’t get me wrong, I am competitive and love to do PB, but I also enjoy running. It’s in my DNA. For 57 years, I’ve been pounding the roads and tracks of two continents and learned a thing or two about running and life.
Whatever your reasons for running, I’m here to provide you with “street-smart” advice on gear, essential book reading, and basic training. My blog contains articles and my current running thoughts.
But this isn’t a one-way site – your input and opinions are vital to growing this community. So, I'd love any feedback on the contents and things you'd like to see added to the website to help make your running more enjoyable!
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR TODAY?
Gear
Runners can’t seem to get enough shoes, tops, bottoms, hats, gloves, and of course technologies and accessories such as watches and phone holders. Find helpful hints on running shoes, and other gear you need, along with sage advice about what you don’t need.
Library
My recommended reading list is all the books I have that are so dog-eared they’re almost falling apart at the spline. This book list covers biography, training, philosophy, therapeutic advice, and a few mad-hatters just to keep some controversy in the air. Most of these are available on Kindle.
Training
There are some basic training approaches and schedules that generally work for those starting out or who are focused on running as a fitness regime and not concerned about being competitive with others. Schedules are only maps and sometimes detours make the journey more enjoyable.
