Running Accessories for Training

Reviews of Safety Wear for Training and Injury Prevention

Beyond gear, I make little additional investment to enjoy my running except in a few areas. These areas cover safety wear, watches, and recovery massage equipment. I rarely run or walk at night but on dark days and roads during the day a reflective vest keeps me safer.

In keeping with my doctrine of not recommending a product I’ve never used, I’ve avoided any of the arrays of add-ons as supporting my running passion.

A safety accessory if my only time for a run is in the darker hours. The light can be removed to wash the hat and recharge the battery using a USB port – it takes about 2 hours to recharge. As I don’t use mine often this isn’t an issue for me.

The material is acrylic and keeps you warm in chilly weather. The hat is available in many colors and makes an ideal gift for a runner or walker out in the early or late hours.

This is my go-to safety equipment that I can reuse multiple times in a week before it needs washing. I use this any time of the year when it is early morning, or dark and cloudy when training on roads.

Make sure you get the right size so it’s a tight fit otherwise, it will slip around your torso and distract you when running.

I succumb to a GPS watch a few years back and won’t live without one now. Garmin works fine for me. I had a Garmin Forerunner 35 until recently and upgraded to their latest model in the series. I link it to Strava to share runs with my buddies.

I don't use all the features as I have little need for them. Just time and distance, pace, and heart rate. It has a lot more features than I need but at the low end of the cost scale. I average 35-40 miles per week and find charging 1-2 times per week suffice. You may need more features, and there are plenty of other models and brands.

This was a gift from my wife as I think she thought I would otherwise choke on the cost and find a reason to not purchase it. It is not inexpensive. But now I have one it’s my recovery lifeline.

The product is aimed at before and after exercise. Before is used in shorter bursts to activate muscle groups and enhance performance, and longer massaging to recover from exercise by relieving tight and sore muscles. I tend to use it for recovery.

Ekrin manufactures professional-grade devices. I love mine.
